Friday Roundups – Carnival of Personal Finance and Festival of Frugality

in Personal Finance

I enjoyed reading the Carnival of Personal Finance and Festival of Frugality this past week.  Mighty Bargain Hunter hosted the 160th edition of the Carnival of Personal Finance and presented a wonderful patriotic theme with the history of the American Flag.  Love it!  The Festival of Frugality was hosted at Squawkfox with a “fruit and underwear” theme!

Here are my top picks for this week:

From the Carnival of Personal Finance:
Passive Family Income details how they are Preparing for House Guests and added Expenses. Planning in advance really does help to keep the budget in check.

Cash Money Life presents some thoughts on food stamps and the economy. The article really makes one ponder on the current situation in the US with food stamps — the comments are worth reading too.

The Personal Financier tells how to teach your kids about personal finance with the game of monopoly.

You Need A Budget asks the question “Are We Raising Generation Y-Me?” I agree that giving kids a “hand up” (training them to take care of themselves) is more productive than forking over a “hand out”.

From the Festival of Frugality:

Journeyer’s Chronicles has some thoughts on how to handle the kids during summer break in “What to do in the school holidays?”

Financial Reflections wonders “What Makes Kids Happy?” Hint: It isn’t more “stuff”.

Bible Money Matters gives tips for saving at the movies this summer.

Thanks for mentioning my article. I think the comments speak volumes about the issue. I certainly thought a lot more about the topic after the readers weighed in.
