Five Tips on How to Save or Make Money Parking

There are many costs associated with driving. The first one you incur is the cost of your vehicle. Then you have to buy gas to get it from point A to point B. You have to buy insurance, and if you want to keep it running properly, you must spend some money on maintenance. And then there’s parking.

Those who live in rural areas can often park for free. But if you live in an urban area, you know that the price of parking can really add up. If you want a space close to a popular destination, you can expect to pay a premium for it.

It is possible to save money on parking. And you may even be able to make some money from it. Here are five ideas to consider.

1. Look for the cheapest parking lot that’s reasonably close to your destination. If it’s a one-time trip, this could save you a few dollars. If it’s somewhere you go every day (such as your job), you could save hundreds of dollars a year. In some locations, you could even save hundreds each month.

2. Keep your eyes open for free parking. In some cities, it is abundant. In others, it’s practically non-existent. But if you find free parking, you can expect to have to walk further than if you had paid to park.

3. Pay by the month when practical. If you need to park somewhere several times a week, paying by the month can save you money. You can often park as much as you like during a month’s time for less than it would cost to park in the same place for a week if you paid by the day.

4. Rent someone’s driveway. Those who live in high traffic areas are sometimes willing to rent out their driveways to make extra money. Look for signs at people’s houses if you want to go this route. If you know someone who lives near your workplace or somewhere else you frequent, ask about renting space in his driveway.

5. Rent out your own driveway. If you live in the city, you can make a significant amount of money this way. It can be especially profitable if you live near an entertainment venue and have a driveway large enough to accommodate several vehicles.

Where parking is abundant, it’s usually inexpensive. But when it’s scarce, it can cost a pretty penny. It pays to find the best deal possible, especially if you park in the same area often. These tips can help you spend less on parking, and maybe even make a little money on it as well.
