Actually shopping green is going to save you more money than what you would think. The first thing to look at for saving money is your cleaning supplies. The average family can spend $40 a month on cleaning supplies. How can you possibly save money on cleaning supplies?
There are many products that you either have in your home or you can buy really cheap at the grocery store. For instance, white vinegar mixed with water is great for cleaning mirrors and windows. Windex or even something cheaper will cost you more than a bottle of white vinegar, which is under $1. You can use one bottle of vinegar for a year after mixing it with water.
Vinegar can be used to clean floors, stainless steal and the bathroom tub and sink. Vinegar will cut through wax build up, odors, mildew and grease. This is great for kitchen and bathroom cleaning. This alone will save you money at the grocery store.
Baking soda is another household product that you can buy for under $1. When you combine the baking soda with water, you have a deodorizer and abrasive cleaner for those hard to clean areas. If you want a lemon scent, you can use a real lemon or lemon juice added to clean. This also works to kill some bacteria.
Keep in mind that using newspapers to clean mirror and windows will save on paper toweling. Use old clothes as rags and wash them when done. You can find many household products that can help cut the monthly expenses.
When you are doing yard work, you can save money by using a push lawnmower that needs no gas or oil, make a small compose pile for fertilizer and pick a spot in your yard for a vegetable garden. If you have little room for a garden in the yard, make a container garden with five-gallon buckets. These work great for tomato plants and other vegetables.
