Decorating for Fall on a Budget
Fall home décor is my absolute favorite. I love the colors that go with fall; I love the motifs that are associated with fall. My house could be decked out for fall all year long, and I’d still love it.
When decorating your house for fall, though, it’s easy to get carried away and lose sight of your budget. Luxurious fall wreaths look lovely, but they can be costly. Likewise, the cost of metal planters to adorn your porch can quickly add up. Is it possible to get your home ready for the arrival of fall without destroying your budget?
Of course it is possible! Like any other home décor, fall décor can be very inexpensive if you put a little work and creative thought into your decorating plans. Look for unconventional items and reusable accessories to keep your home’s décor current, but affordable.
Fall-Colored Candles – You can bring the colors of fall into your home affordably by replacing the bright-colored candles in your home with candles in the traditional colors of autumn. Look for burnt oranges, ivory and brown to add that harvest theme to your home.
Straw/Hay Bales – Inexpensive straw or hay bales add an instant touch of fall décor to any home. Small blocks of hay can be used in centerpieces or mantel displays. Larger ones can be used on the porch to hold flower pots. Look for places to fit these frugal treasures into your decorating.
Handcrafted Wreaths – Instead of spending a fortune on a wreath for your home’s door, why not make a wreath of your own. You can purchase an inexpensive base for your wreath at your local craft store. Then, glue or staple artificial versions of your favorite fall flowers onto the surface of the wreath.
Painted Planters – Forget purchasing fall-themed planters at your local discount store. Instead, buy some off-season planters in a clearance sale or at a dollar store. With a simple coat of paint, you can convert these bargain beauties into the perfect adornment for your fall porch.
Fall Plants – Now that you’ve created some lovely planters, don’t forget to fill them with flowers that include blooms in fall colors. Mums and poppies are hardy to the cooler temperatures that sometimes pop up in autumn months.
