Unless you’ve been in hiding for these last few months, you’ve probably already heard that airline ticket pricing has been soaring to previously unheard of heights. Tales of fares that have doubled are everywhere, and there doesn’t seem to be an end to the increases in sight. It’s more important than ever, now, to shop around to find the best deal you can.
Although you may be hard-pressed to find the types of savings you would have experienced a year ago, there are still deals to be had if you’re willing to put forth a little extra effort. Try these tips for finding an airfare that fits into your budget:
Be flexible about when you travel. Travelling to a destination during its traditional “off-season” may help you stretch your travel dollar. Even if you have your heart set on visiting the beach during the summer, however, your departure and arrival days can still have a big impact on the cost of your airfare. Typically flights on Tuesdays and Saturdays are much more affordable than their counterparts on Mondays and Sundays. If your schedule allows you to plan your vacation around these days, you can find significant savings.
Be prepared to shop around. Different travel websites tend to have special pricing for different airlines. So, you may find one site that has great prices for Continental Airlines. Another site may have specials on Delta. By investigating all of your options at several travel websites, such as Expedia or Travelocity, you can find the flight you want at a fare you’re willing to pay.
Deal directly with the airline. Some special pricing never makes its way to the travel websites. Other airlines only offer ticketing directly through their own websites. In either case, a quick visit to the airlines website can garner huge savings. Southwest Airlines is one particular airline that makes a habit of having competitive prices, and Southwest tickets can only be bought through Southwest.
Travelers flying into a mega-airport like Los Angeles International Airport may find price relief by choosing to begin their vacation in a smaller, nearby airport. For example, Los Angeles has five other airports in its general vicinity. Not only can you save a few dollars on your airfare, you may also save a little stress by choosing to fly into a more laid-back airport.

Very informative. Thanks for the tip!
Cheap airfare is usually obtained early in the morning because early morning flights are generally cheaper than midday flights. If you want to save costs on airfare, hit the bulls eye. Late evening flights are cheaper than early evening flights.
