Getting married is one of the most exciting experiences anyone will ever enjoy. Beginning a new life together surrounded by family and friends is sure to strike a romantic chord in even the most pragmatic individuals. This is truly a day to cherish!
Planning a wedding, however, can often be a very different experience. Unless you have unlimited finances, putting together a wedding can be very stressful. The number of guests, the degree of formality, and a myriad of other factors will have to be considered as you determine what your wedding’s budget will be. And, although, you don’t want to go into debt while planning your wedding, you also don’t want to skimp on the celebration of your big day.
Fortunately, there are lots of ways to save money on a wedding without sacrificing anything more than your time and effort, or the time and effort of your trusty bridesmaids. Many different aspects of weddings lend themselves to do-it-yourself projects. You’ll be able to create something special and customized for your wedding and still save money. Here are a few suggestions to get you started:
Create your own invitations. The availability of many different types of paper and matching envelopes at craft stores like Michael’s or Hobby Lobby make it easy to design and create your own invitations. Don’t forget to add special touches with ribbon or other embellishment materials.
Make centerpieces from silk flowers ahead of time. Centerpieces present the perfect opportunity to make some of your wedding décor ahead of time. Purchase silk flowers or plants before the wedding and put them together to serve as simple floral arrangements. By making them so far in advance, you can take your time and look for great bargains on your materials.
Check out non-traditional wedding dress sources. Consignment shops, eBay, and classified ads are all great sources for bargain-priced wedding dresses. Sometimes these dresses have been worn before. Other times, the dresses didn’t even get used. In either case, you will find that your dollars will stretch much farther outside of the dress shop.
Consider outdoor venues. If you, or a family member, have access to a well-landscaped space outdoors, you could have a beautiful wedding that requires very little extra decoration. There is no better decorator than Mother Nature. A few strands of twinkle lights and some tulle ribbon can transform a backyard into a natural wonderland.
